2013 ING NYC Marathon Results Are In!!
I’m not sure if you were out today on the sidelines or at home cheering on the ING Marathon’s walkers, cyclist and runners. I may be biased, but I think the absolute best view of all of the marathon was from Emmanuel Baptist Church (EBC) in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn. From a about 9am up until almost 3pm, our church ministered to both marathon participants and the community at large. While 2 services went on inside, the church members witnessed on the outside. A prayer station was available, the choir was singing and the youth of our Sunday school distributed water to the runners.
EBC is no stranger to the community as this is an annual tradition of the church’s ministry and members of the congregation often participate in the marathon itself as well. Who knows, maybe I’m in a different spiritual space but the energy that was on Lafayette Avenue between St. James Place and Washington Avenue today, will be remembered by all that were able to encounter it. From the old to the young, runners and spectators, I think it is safe to say that all were uplifted to say the least.
To say that I was inspired would do the experience an injustice. The mere fact that there were disabled runners that were blind and with missing limbs or even seniors and yet in the race was incredibale. There were times when runners of every nationality would stop in front of our church to take it all in, to absorb the essence of the holy spirit that permeated the space. Some were even moved to tears as they blew kisses and waved. All I can say to that is: TO GOD BE THE GLORY!
This affirms that the church is outside of the four walls of a building and that true ministry is by way of witness. I am 200% sure that there will be some new faces in the pews come next Sunday, so EBC make room!
So you see, the 2013 ING NYC Marathon Results Are In, GOD gets the Victory. Being the borough of churches, this is how we Spread Love, It’s the BrooKlyn Kisha Way!
