Don’t Count Yourself Out!
I think I’ve been pretty open about the going ons in my life inclusive of my personal struggles since beginning my blog. All to often, we appear as if we have it together when in reality, there are areas in our lives that we’d rather not expose. Like many others, I have insecurities that I sometimes allow in my way. Intellectually I know better however; that doesn’t stop the frustration from creeping in at times. Surrounding myself with the right people that support me even if that means holding me accountable and praying for me when that’s all that can be done, has been significant. There’s also a self-determination needed and no matter how frustrating things get, whether professionally or personally Don’t Count Yourself Out!
Too often we compare our success to others’ expectations of how our lives should be and even worse; to the success of others. We pursue expected careers, spouses and/or lifestyles according to timelines and opinions that we give way too much power and validity. At other times, we just do a bang up job at being hard on ourselves. Not that we shouldn’t set goals and hold ourselves to a standard, but the point in which it becomes counter-productive is when we don’t meet these expectations, and become discouraged and/or stagnant.
We post inspirational quotes and scriptures however, we don’t live them nor exhibit faith in them. Gods time means just that: Gods time. What’s meant for you cannot be taken by someone else because it is tailored and fashioned for YOU, just the same as you can’t acquire someone else’s blessing. On the way to success there are both lessons and blessing if we’re open to the pruning process. Age, gender, ethnicity or social status don’t define who you are and what you can accomplish!
On the upcoming Soul Train Awards, Tamar Braxton (during an award acceptance speech) shares how prior to her recent succes at 36 years old, she almost gave up on a solo career. Despite what some may think about her, there is a lesson in pursuing your dreams that we all can takeaway.
