Know your stuff!
All too often, we see things that are not right, complain, and express our dissatisfaction with what goes on around us but yet, we do nothing about it. Because we sometimes feel hopeless about situations within our community we disassociate ourselves from having any power or impact on the outcomes we wish to see.
On the other hand, we fail to act accordingly due to the lack of correct information. We rely on the news, other media outlets and people as opposed to finding out the things we need to know in order to make informed decisions. The first step in creating an equitable community that you would like to live in, you need to Know your stuff!
A few weeks ago I took the opportunity to participate in a Talking Transition event at the pop up tent that was created by mayor-elect to receive feedback from the public. You were also able to follow online conversations about a range of NYC related issues via twitter uses various hastags including #talkingtransition.
Many may not have been able to participate in any of those related activities however there is still something for you to do. I charge all my readers and followers to visit Mayor-Elect, Bill De blasio’s site Transition NYC and send him a message (respectfully of course) or submit an idea about a topic or cause you care about.
I’ve done it, and you can too! Spread Love, It’s the BrooKlyn Kisha Way!
