What’s Next Brooklyn?
Now that we’re past election day and Brooklyn has established its Politcal presence, how will this impact the people of the Borough?
If you’re a lifelong Brooklyn-nite like me, or have been around the borough for a while, you have probably experienced or at least witnessed the changes of the borough. From gentrification, to housing, to the shops and restaurants, to happenings around the borough, well all have been affected in some way. Depending on who you ask, determines whether the changes are viewed as good or bad. At this point, some say we’re only at the beginning as there so many more changes planned. What’s next Brooklyn?
We all can take some responsiblity in moving our borough in the right direction. A sure way to affect the change you want to see, is to become both civically and politically engaged. A good place to start could be as simple as inquiring at your church, or either at the Community Board level or Precinct Councils which exist in every precinct. For education related issues, there is the Community Education Council.
Remember that those who are elected into public office, work for us (the public) and have a responsiblity to work on our behalf. The flip side is we have to hold them accountable in doing so by being informed constituents that bring serious matters to their attention. Finding out who represents you, and keeping that information handy is essential.
For just about every development and public change that happens in Brooklyn (and beyond), remember there are public information/hearing processes that take place for community imput and all to often they go poorly attended; lets change that trajectory with the new Administration.
DID YOU KNOW?
- yesterday, November 25th, there was a church meeting held at Brown Memorial Baptist Church in Clinton Hill, to address the issues regarding the remaining Atlantic Yards project
- there is an Atlantic Yard, Quality Of Life Committee and their next meeting is Wednesday, December 4th
There is something we all can do, so let’s get the word out: Spread Love, I’ts the BrooKlyn Kisha Way!
